On March 31st, 2021, the Wisconsin State Supreme Court struck down the extension of the emergency mask mandate put in place by Governor Evers on the grounds that the extension of the mandate violated Wisconsin Statute 323.10: “[a] state of emergency shall not exceed 60 days, unless the state of emergency is extended by joint resolution of the legislature.”
What does this mean for St. Peter’s, Eldorado? Although the mandate has been struck down, and although there are no local or county orders in place that would mandate masks, masks are still recommended by federal, state and local medical communities to help curb any further spread of Covid-19 or its variants.
If you are more comfortable in a mask, please feel free to wear one in our building.
As we begin to contemplate and work through this new change, perhaps the 8th commandment can be stressed as we take the words and actions of others in the kindest possible way. Even during the mandate, the government seemed to give such advice in their Frequently Asked Questions document, “What do I do if I see someone not wearing a face covering? Nothing. Some people have conditions or circumstances that would make wearing a face covering difficult or dangerous. Just wear your face covering and stay six feet away.” Please remember, this was considered a “safe practice” and can continue to be so.
The church council will continue to monitor the situation and make adjustments as the need arises.
Blessings on your Holy Week and Easter celebrations!
